The occurrence of sudden death during pregnancy and delivery is not as rare as once thought. Women who are at high risk for this complication need to be aware, but it's important to know that most pregnancies will end in healthy babies. In this blog post, we'll discuss what causes these deaths.
1 – Acute myocardial infarction due to hypercoagulation state, atherosclerosis & coronary thrombus are the most common reasons for sudden death during pregnancy and delivery. Other reasons for the same include advanced age, black race, hypertension, anaemia, eclampsia, and so forth.
2 – Sudden death due to vascular dissection and rupture in a hypertensive patient. Complaints of back pain & shortness of breath should be evaluated profoundly.
3 – Heart diseases and strokes cause most deaths overall.
4 – Obstetric emergencies like severe bleeding, amniotic, fluid embolism cause most sudden deaths during delivery.
5 – Amniotic fluid embolism is a condition where all of a sudden amniotic fluid enters mother’s blood stream, and lead to sudden death. Anyone can be the victim; however, it is more common in twins and large babies.
6 – Postmortem helps to find out the exact cause in sudden death and also to help relatives and clinicians to understand the cause of sudden scary events.
